Populist ignorance will drive you to believe that Zizou’s headbutt was a defining moment of his career. Ok, my predictions on world cup winners were predictably CRAP, but Zidane has treated us to the spectacle that is the beautiful game. Its like he glides on air. He is a class apart and its shocking to me that people are questioning his integrity and temperament. This isn’t an MLS MVP or an ignorant soccer statistic . Its Zidane- A player larger than life that has defined this football decade.
Matterrazi doesn’t deserve my time. Although to be fair, he is a winner.
Italy on the other hand deserve some of my time. Yes they won, whether they deserved it is arguable.Lippi and his collectively arrogant team did win and thats what matters in the results business. They did however exemplify BKD = ‘buckling knees disorder’ which is basically the involuntary(Ask Luca, he’ll explain to you what involuntary means) bucking of your knees driving you to fall helplessly to the ground when you lose the ball. The penalty resulting from BKD they got against Australia, the first goal against Ghana(which was clearly offside), the two moments of brilliance from Pirlo and Del Pierro against Germany and Materrazi’s verbal skills were the defining moments of their world cup. I guess i can’t deny Italy their 4 years of extended gloating, but I can’t stop puking! Italy – YUCK!!!!!!!!!
Hindsight is a beautiful thing
1. England – An injured Rooney is overrated. England need to realize, that long ball footie isn’t going to cut it. Crouch isn’t a world class striker. He is a cross between an avg second division foward and girraffe. I hope England, which is the team i support in international competition, will win something soon. Becks- although not amongst the best world cup players was the only guy who actually had completed deliverables to his name in the england squad. Him and maybe Joe Cole.
2. Argentina – Pekerman = Given the best team, his decisions were wierd. No messi or riquelme against germany in extra time. what a waste of talent. Pekerman influenced history in this world cup. His team had their names written on the world cup. He screwed up big time.
3. Brazil – hahahahahaha – El Capitan = Eleven captains
4. Portugal – played with heart, but Pualetta needs a hommie to help him out up front. Deco was under par. Ronaldo is pretty to watch – but he’s no zidane in the making
5. Spain – Great to watch but flair was exposed by the techical teams like France. great prospects for the future though.
6. Holland – played within themselves – Not playing nistelroy in the last game cost van basten
7. Ivory Coast/Ghana – The jewels of Africa that fit the African stereo types for this world cup. i.e: captured the hearts of soccer fans but fail to deliver past round of 16.
8. Germany – probably the most entertaining along with Spain and Argentina. Klinsmann really helped them rid Germany of the post war nazi persona and put forth a team that will hopefully continue playing fun to watch football. MVPS = klose, frings, ballack, podolski
Last but not least, I think the refreeing in this world cup was CRAP. After all the hoo-haa around FIFA’s refree training + free BS from blatter b4 the world cup, one of the refs actually handed out like 16 cards in one game. What a joke
But Italy winning still tops bad refreeing. ITA’L-U-C-K-Y’.
Apart from the void that is nomore world cup, work and school is keepin me on my toes.
My birthday, trip to NYC over the 4th of July and other sucj fun outings like going fishing, barbQing, etc were overshadowed by the tragedy that is ITALY winning the world cup.
Ciao!
